January 2025 Newsletter – Building Up The Next Generation

“I’m very grateful to God for the opportunity to be a part of the Building My Horizon program for three years. The program helped me learn English grammar and pronunciation and it was all very good. When I started grade seven, the English I learned at BMH really helped me at school with my English homework and especially with being able to interact with my teacher during class. The Computer Science, English, and Bible education gives me and other children like me the opportunity to open our minds up about how we picture our lives and allows us to work towards a future that is different than the life our parents experienced, a much more stable future.” – BMH Alumna, Ninth Grade Student.

We are encouraged by testimonies such as this. They demonstrate the difference we are making. We will continue to strive to impact every child and family’s life in such a positive way.

Every year, as classes wind down, we evaluate the children’s program. We ask: How well did they learn the topics taught them? What do we need to change to help them and their families more effectively?  In November 2024, forty-two BMH students had their final evaluations. Looking back, these are the main achievements:

Bible:

  • The children learned about salvation and recognized Jesus as their Savior. Many seeds of God’s Word were sown in every heart.
  • Each child gained knowledge about the miracles Jesus did during His ministry on earth and how He always cares for each of them and their families.
  • They memorized God’s commandments; through this they learned how to live a life according to God’s will.

Computer Sciences:

  • The children are from rural areas; this means they do not have access to computer technology as their parents cannot afford it. They were given this access while at class.
  • The public school system increasingly demands that students do their homework using computers, so the education they receive in BMH is crucial to their ability to cope and to thrive in their education.
  • They received good working knowledge of the basics of computer use.
  • They also gained more skill and confidence in reading and writing, which many of them are deficient in.

English:

  • Students learned to speak and write some English in fun and interactive ways which kept them engaged and eager to learn.
  • Their confidence in themselves and in their ability to speak English grew.
  • The results: They improve in their public-school English classes; They help their siblings to learn English.
  • Another important result: The children are empowered to pursue academic studies and careers that require English

As we look forward to BMH starting in June of this year, your partnership is needed.

How can you partner with the children and their families?

Through prayer: for their current public-school studies, good health, for their parents as they work and care for them, for complete funding of the program, for an English teacher volunteer at BMH

Through donating: current needs: Child Sponsorship – $7,406 US ($186 US per child for the whole 6 months), BMH Mother’s Occupation Education – $2,500 US, BMH Parents’ Conference -$1,200 US; great ideas to help raise funds: share with friends and family about BMH, encourage a business you know to donate a certain % of profits to BMH for a certain amount of time, give the gift of child sponsorship to a friend or a loved one instead of a physical birthday present.
